Waiting on God

Scripture:  Psalm 62:5 NKJV - My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my expectation is from Him.

Waiting. That part of life that we all wish we could skip. Living in a microwave, I-want-it-now society causes us to be impatient – with God and ourselves – causing us to miss the joys of the process He ordained us to go through. If God allowed us to get everything we ever thought we needed, He would be more like a genie and not the Sovereign, all-wise Father and Creator we know Him to be.

We constantly long for persons, places and things that aren’t necessarily good for us or good to us. But none of those ‘nouns’ are eternal – none of them will ever fulfill our true desire(s) in life. We can expect them to meet our need, quench our thirst and make us feel wanted but our expectations are often met with disappointment. God is not like us – He cannot and will not lie. He allows us to go through periods of waiting to prepare us for what’s to come. I don’t know about you but I’d rather have expectations from a God Who has NEVER failed, than to put my trust in someone like me! We are limited in our ability, strength … limited in everything we need (and expect) God to be for us and to us. We simply cannot do life without Him!

No matter what’s happening in/around us, we have to remember that we are not in control … GOD IS!! He has not forgotten us, He is not neglecting us and in His time, He will deliver us! So while we wait, what do we do?

1.We read/study/meditate/memorize His Word, set our minds and hearts on Him and rest in Him because we are safe in His arms. He is able (Ephesians 3:20-21) and willing to give us the desires of our hearts … if we would only delight in Him. (Psalm 37:4)

2.We serve Him! Whatever capacity you have been serving Him, keep on keepin’ on! Don’t stop just because you are in a season of waiting. While you are serving and seeking Him, you exercise your faith by staying focused on the main thing – pleasing Him!

3.Trust Him! He has us in this place of waiting for a reason – He sees the end, He has full vision of what could happen if we move ahead of Him/His leading. Believe me when I say God does NOT need our help; HE is the Potter, we are His clay! We must not forget that. He protects us from our own poor judgement and shields us from hurt, harm and danger, seen and unseen.

4.Know that we are not alone! All of us are waiting for God to answer a prayer. Know that people from all walks of life may have the same prayer or a prayer in the same area(s) that we do. Only a God like ours can hear and answer every prayer, in the right way (His), at the right time (also His) in a way that brings Him glory and works out for our good! (Romans 8:28) HE IS WITH US!!

God has our best interest at heart. His favor on our lives will overshadow our expectations every time! Thank You Father! While you wait on Him, expect His timing to be perfect, expect great things from Him and in Him! Know that He who begun a good work in us WILL complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:6) Wait only on Him! Wait silently for Him and Him alone!! Wait expectantly for Him!! Be encouraged, God has His hands on you! You are covered under the shadow of the Almighty!

Prayer: Dear God, thank You for Your divine wisdom. Thank You that You orchestrate what You deem necessary in our lives that causes us to trust You more. Help us to remember that You are always there, waiting to bless us as only You can. Thank You for making us wait! Although it’s not always fun, it causes us to relinquish the control we think we have; it makes us seek You like never before. While we wait, may we stay the course – never giving up, not growing weary but knowing that we shall reap if we faint not. (Galatians 6:9) Thank You Father for saying “Wait!” Thank You for teaching us there is wisdom in the waiting on/for You! In Jesus’ Name we always pray … AMEN!
