The Lord Has Done Great Things!
Scripture: Psalms 126:3 - The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.
Some Christians tend to think about or talk about the negative or dark side of everything and dwell on what they have gone through more so than what God has done for them. If you were to write about your Christian life, would you focus more on the conflicts, frustrations, disappointments, failures, sins, or how gracious and merciful the Lord has been in your life?
A few of the many great things that the Lord has done for us are: Jesus experienced death and resurrection in order to defeat sin’s power in our lives (Matthew 28:1-6). He gives us a future and hope. (Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.) He allows us to be more than conquerors (Romans 8:31-37). We are sealed until the day of redemption. (Ephesians 4:29-30 - Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. 30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.) Jesus gives us what we need (Psalms 23). He leads/guides us (Proverbs 3:5-6). He intercedes for us. (Romans 8:26 - Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.) We are a new creation in Christ (II Corinthians 5:17). When we are weak, He strengthens us. (II Corinthians 12:9-10 - And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.) He has prepared a dwelling place for us (John 14:1-6). He is coming back for us. (I Thessalonians 4:16-17 - For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Can you imagine experiencing be conquered, your home destroyed, your possessions taken away, and every member of your family being led captive into a foreign land for 70 years? That is what happened to the Israelites because of their disobedience to God. Then after the 70 year captivity, the Lord allowed those who were captive back to Jerusalem to rebuild the city of the ancestors and to restore the temple of God, which had been destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar so many years ago. The people felt as if they were in a dream (Psalms 126:1-2), and they were filled with laughter and singing! They said that the Lord had done great things for them, and they were glad (Psalms 126:1-3)!!!
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father: Thank You for being faithful in keeping your promises to us! Thank You for the great things that You have done for us in the past, now, and what You will do in the future!! We are exceedingly glad! Help us to learn from our experiences in life, and to choose what is right and that glorifies You. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
