Avoid Distraction

Matthew 6:33 - But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
My mom was an avid watcher of Animal Kingdom videos. I remember a scene in one of the videos where lions gathered near a bunch of gazelles trying to spot the easiest kill for their meal. As long as they stayed focused they would get their needs met, but if they became distracted with a conflict amongst themselves they would usually miss out on a kill -- as they would scare the gazelles away with all the ruckus.
I liken this scene with us as saints of God. When we come together for a common cause to hear the Word or to do ministry, the air is light and people are growing, assignments are fulfilled. But when we find ourselves in conflict with one another, our growth is stunted, a soul is scared away and ministry is delayed. We become frustrated in the whole matter, and the manifestation of fruit is hindered.
So what do we do to stay focused in this life? We understand there is definitely a being whose sole purpose is to keep us from a closeness with Jesus; to keep us okay with patterns of wrong doing. Our adversary walks about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may destroy. We must stay guarded and aware of just how easy we can be used to discourage or to frustrate the cause of Christ. Scripture teaches us to meditate on the Word of God day and night for good success (Joshua 1:8). Also, we are told to love the Lord God with all our heart, soul and mind (Luke 10:27); and in this life we must never cease to pray (I Thessalonians 5:17). Well, these are ingredients for a fruitful and purposeful life…a life where Jesus is the centrality of focus. Always keeping Him the number one priority!
Prayer: Lord, I thank you for Your constant Love toward us and the way you don’t give up on us when we fail. How You always extend Your hand of love and forgiveness that we can come to you unashamed and fully restored. Lord, help us to be victorious and triumphant over every act and/or deed designed to distract us from our love and worship to You. In Jesus’ Name-Amen!
