Trusting God is the Only Way

Scripture: Psalms 20:7 - Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
Truly trusting God is harder than it seems. Believers are told to trust God with all our hearts and lean NOT on our own understanding. We should also acknowledge God in ALL of our ways and He will direct our path. Do you really trust God like that? Many times, believers trust chairs more than they trust God. They just plop down in a chair. They don’t check the weight limit or if the legs are stable. They just sit. Believers should trust God the same way. Imagine if we trusted God like that, we wouldn’t have any anxiety, or ulcers from worrying. Stepping out on faith would be a cake walk. However, the reality is when it comes to trusting God, believers often falter – fall short. Believers often second guess themselves and question God. Trust requires believers to be in a place of submission. Trust requires believers to be in a place of dependence. Trust requires faith. The problem is as believers we know that God always raises the ante. The believer knows that the “trust hat” will require more and more as they grow. And if we are honest, we can admit that we want the goods but don’t want to pay for them. Trust doesn’t work that way, it requires payment.
God is not a stagnant God. He’s a God of action and He expects us to be action driven also. Trust is a verb, a word of action meaning to rely upon or place confidence in someone or something (usually followed by in or to) For example, trust in God. Believers are told to come boldly to the throne of grace. That’s impossible without trusting God. When life gets tough you must trust God to see you through. Giving your life to Christ requires faith and faith requires trust.
Consider children, they blindly trust their parents. They blindly trust damaged and imperfect people. But as Christians we tend to struggle with trusting a perfect and faultless God. Has God shown any imperfections or has human frailty clouded the judgement of the believer causing doubt? What would it take to blindly trust God, completely? The Lord has proven over and over that He is faithful, that He is dependable, and that He is trustworthy; yet we still fail to trust in Him, fully. Now, consider the song below, imagine God saying:
I know that faith is easy when everything is going well,
But can you still believe in Me when your life’s a living hell?
And when all the things around you seem to quickly fade away,
There’s just one thing I really want to know
Will you let go? (I’ll trust you, Lord) Will you stand on My word? (I’ll trust You, Lord) Against all odds will you believe what I have said? (I’ll trust you, Lord) What seems impossible (I’ll trust You, Lord) Will you believe? (I’ll trust You, Lord) Every promise that I made will you receive? (Yes, I will trust You, Lord)
I know how bad it hurt you when that loved one’s life came to an end.
And when they had to leave you, you said you’d never love again.
But will you trust that I can help you and I’ll never turn away?
Will you trust Me, child, no matter, come what may?
What if it hurts? (I’ll trust You, Lord) What if you cry? (I’ll trust You, Lord)
What if it doesn’t work out the first time that you try? (I’ll trust You, Lord)
What if you call My Name (I’ll trust You, Lord)
And you don’t feel me near? (I’ll trust You, Lord)
Will you believe in Me or will you fear?
Oh, my child? (Yes, I will trust, You Lord) Songwriter: Donnie McClurkin
Will you trust, Him? Do you trust, Him?
Prayer: Dear Lord, forgive our doubt. Forgive our unfaithfulness despite Your faithfulness. Forgive us for trusting in man and man-made objects more than we trust You. Forgive us, Lord, for acting like Peter and asking You to prove Yourself but then allowing fear to cause us to sink. Forgive us, Lord, for knowing Your Word but failing to believe what Your Word says. Forgive us for our short-comings that cause us to believe You would go against what You said; when that is impossible. Thank You, Father, for loving us despite of our distrust and disbelief. Thank You for never going back on Your Word. Thank You for loving us when we didn’t love ourselves. And thank You for Your Son, Jesus Christ, who died for our sins. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
