Never Alone
Scriptures: (Hebrews 13:5c NKJ) “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Matthews 28:20b) “ …and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.“
I am reminded of an old hymn, sang during my childhood of having never to be alone. He (Lord) promised never to leave me, never to leave me alone. Those words came right from the Bible. This is a promise. When situations and struggles sprang up in our lives, even during the darkest of times and our trust falters, the Word reminds us that the Lord is with us (Isaiah 41:10). We are indeed never alone. Yes, there may be times when you may feel that you are struggling all by yourself. The Lord “never leaves you” is a promise that He will keep. The Lord is faithful to His Word. He will bring it to pass. He cannot lie. You have the promise of God that you are never alone. He is there to meet your every need in any and every situation. Halleluyah!
Humans are incapable of keeping such a promise. Humans may turn their back on a situation. They cannot be trusted with such a promise. The scripture bears witness to us of this spiritual truth. (Joshua 1:9)…”do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Those words must have been comforting to Joshua as the Israelites prepared to cross the Jordan, and thus possess the land. (Isaiah 43:3) The Redeemer of Israel says When you pass through the waters, I will be with you. Matthews 28:19,20) Jesus speaking to the Disciples to “ go and make disciples of all nations- …and lo, I am with you always even to the ends of this world. This scripture helps to inspire those who feel alone as they struggle with life’s situations.
Yes, the Lord is always there with us -- not just standing idol by, but interjecting to help, protect, guide. Not only are we believers never alone, we are also not forsaken. Jesus himself certainly knew what it was like to be forsaken at the cross by His followers. Even His disciples forsook Him. Often, Christians are forsaken for their stand of faith for Christ. Family, friends and neighbors are sometimes alienated from others because of those who forsake others. Nations and peoples who turned their backs on God were sent curses and destruction because they’d forsaken the Lord. (Joshua 24:20, Judges 10:13, Prov. 15:10) God never forsakes His own (believers)(Heb. 13:5b) who trust Him (Joshua 1:5) and seek Him (Ps. 9:10).
Prayer: Heavenly Father You have said in Your holy Word that You will never leave me nor forsake me. Thank You for those comforting words that have ministered to me over the past few weeks. You promised, and I believe and trust in that truth. For never is such a long time. For time is in Your hand. Praise Your Holy name. In Christ. Amen.
