A Wicked Heart

Scripture:  Jeremiah 17:9 - The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; Who can know it?

My heart cannot be trusted or followed
It’s tied to emotions and feelings that can change tomorrow

The heart opens itself to all possibilities
Friendly ideas, but eventually painful enemies

Many times, the heart stirs up contention and confusion
It deceives that I’m winning, yet in the long run I’m losing

The heart is willing to buy in to what’s seen or heard
Often fooled by cunning behaviors and flattering words

My heart desires and demands acceptance
It’s power and authority rely on its own self-reference

This heart of mine is unpredictable, who can know it
This heart of mine is wicked, and repeatedly shows it

No more reasoning and no more mercy
I’m calling it what it is before it hurts me

It’s simple, I can’t trust my heart
The Word of God is my source of reference and safeguard

So, I’m considering the things I’ve done and been through
The heart entertains the evil one, in fact, he knows the bible too

Therefore, my heart cannot be counted on to make righteous decisions
For now, on, every heart felt notion will be dispelled with biblical provisions

Prayer:  Lord, overshadow the issues we carry in our hearts. Allow us to see the difference between Your truth and our feelings. We’ve been fooled and deceived many times. Father, lead us through temptations and evil. Protect us from our own hearts. We come in the matchless name of Jesus Christ. Amen!

Amen. Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit in me...that I may deny myself, take up my cross daily and follow You. Bless You Abba.
