Burdens Are Lifted at Calvary

Scripture: Galatians 6:2 NKJ - Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
Days are filled with sorrow and care
Hearts are lonely and drear.
Burdens are lifted at Calvary,
Jesus is very near.
I am reminded of a story told regarding a man walking, carrying a heavy load. The driver of a truck picked him up to relieve him of such a heavy burden, only to look to the back of the truck, and finding the man sitting, still barring the heavy load over his shoulder. All too often in Christendom many saints walk around carrying burdens needlessly. Here we speak in terms of aiding to bear the weights that others are experiencing.
Jesus is our ultimate burden bearer. Only Jesus could bear the burden of our sin. He took the weight for our sin at Calvary. He sacrificed His life for my life in Him. Beloved we are saved by His amazing grace. God’s face is not hidden; for He knows about every heartache and tear drops. Therefore, cast your burdens on Him, and He shall sustain you (Ps 55:22). Those who are the called – learn by the Lord Jesus’ example – as they provide relief and comfort to someone else’s situation. By so doing, beloved you are showing forth the love of Christ in loving your neighbor as yourself (Matt. 22:37-40). You are being Christ’s hand and feet extended. Not that Christ needs your hand, but it is the right thing to do as we have opportunity. It is not always easy. It may cost you something. Your sacrifice – God is well pleased (Heb.13:16).
The New Testament reality was lived out in (Acts 4:32-35). The early church was motivated to look out for one another. God’s grace ministered to their hearts to act. The needs of the people were being met in the land. Bear one another’s burden. A little goes a long way under the power of God’s grace.
Prayer: Lord, grant us the grace we need to be the people You have called us to be. Help me to see the needs of others and act. For in doing so I’m fulfilling the LAW of Christ. Give me spiritual eyes to see beyond my own needs, by the power of Your grace working in me. In Your Name, Amen.
