What a Firm Foundation
Scripture: “For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
Most adults have had some experience with and understand, what is described as a firm foundation. For my experience, with a firm foundation, refers to a physical structure that is built so secure that it stands through adverse conditions. Such sound structure can’t be easily shaken under pressure. Our thoughts are most likely never referred to as being a firm foundation. Figuratively speaking; we look to respect everything about our life to be carried out based on soundness. A firm foundation is likened to that which does not crumble and fall; yet perhaps will endures as we age.
I am reminded of Jesus’ sermon on the mount -- where He taught openly about many things that are recorded in the Bible; stating , “everyone who hears these sayings , and does not do them; will be like a foolish man who built his house (life) on the sand (man’s wisdom). The rain, floods and wind came on that house( day by day disasters)and there was a great fall (Matt. 7:24-27). That house lacked a firm foundation which is Jesus Christ.
Take heed, beloved (I Cor. 3:11) that you are building on the Lord Jesus Christ: having the protection from disaster. Furthermore, Jesus is the rock upon which we must build our foundation. The Lord referred to Himself as the stone of Israel and emphatically stated, “He who builds upon this rock shall never fall” (Deut. 32:3-4). “ No other foundation can be made – than that which is laid by Jesus Christ (I Cor. 3:11), A sure foundation (Isaiah 28:16). He is a precious stone; precious to his Father – who loves Him and delights in Him, has chosen Him and laid Him as foundation of His church, and to every believer He is precious, His person, His name, relations, His blood, righteousness, sacrifice, His Word, ordinances as is everything belonging to Him: What a sure foundation. No other foundation can be made, than that laid by Christ. A foundation is crucial to building, that if one builds wrongly on a firm foundation everything that follows is wrong and can’t be set right. If the foundation is wrong, nothing can truly be right. Those who build on a solid foundation by faith: 1). Trusts God, 2) Have a relationship with Christ Jesus, 3). Is obedient to God’s Word, 4). worships Him in truth and spirit, 5). trusts the Lord and not mammon, 6). cherishes family and Godly relationships
Spiritually speaking: What have you built your life on? What exactly does your faith, family and future rest on? Have you considered how you have built, or is building? Have you come to realize that life experiences have been unshakable, unmovable, or have they continuously been shifting with every situation? Perhaps, if the latter is true, then it is time to reassess or refocus.
Prayer: Lord, You are the Rock of my salvation. In You I place my trust ,knowing that You never fail, and all of Your promises are yes and amen. My life is in Your hand. In Jesus, Amen
