Learning to Walk Alone

Scripture: I Corinthians 5:9 “Therefore, I make it my aim, whether absent or present to be well pleasing to Him.”

Friendships sometimes involve what I call the “Daniel” experience where you learn that Jesus must first become your best friend. As Daniel was taken from the safe environment of his home and family to a foreign land to walk alone, God was now teaching him the power of His presence. Early in my Christian walk I too learned what it was to walk alone. My life verse has become I Corinthians 5:9 “Therefore, I make it my aim, whether absent or present to be well pleasing to Him.”

During my “Daniel” experience, the Lord taught me “how not to fear.” I traveled alone to speaking and singing engagements and He always protected me without a cell phone!  In 1991, after celebrating my birthday with some friends, I returned home and was robbed by gunpoint in front of my house, BUT GOD!  Ten years later, I was again robbed by gunpoint in front of my home, BUT GOD!  In the beginning of 2001, I had two car accidents and then totaled my car on September 11, 2001 at the same time others in New York at the World Trade Center were ushered into eternity, BUT GOD!  The Lord was training me to have a level of trust in Him that assured me that my life was in His hands and nothing could harm me or my life be taken until His appointed time. II Corinthians 5:10 “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.”

Daniel acknowledged His Great God by declaring: Blessed be the name of God foreverand ever, for wisdom and might are His, and He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding. (Daniel 2:20-21) God was Daniel’s all and all and sufficient for the life journey He had called Daniel to walk.

Prayer: Father, in this new season may we choose to find our every sufficiency in You. May we trust You in the darkest of times as our pure hope and rest. I choose to thank You for being You!!

Amen Cheryl .. Upon reading this touching devotional, Jesus brought to my remembrance this old old hymn.

Jesus walked this lonesome valley

He had to walk it by himself, Oh, nobody else could walk it for Him

He had to walk it by himself,

We must walk this lonesome valley, We have to walk it by ourselves,

Oh, Nobody ELSE can walk it for us;

We have to walk it by ourselves.

His all Sufficient Grace meets me in my loneliness no matter what !

Amen Sister Cheryl. Trust Him and He will DIRECT your path. "The mind Man plans his way, but God directs his steps." ( Prov 16:9) This devotional leaves me with wet eyes.

Amen, I was thinking that God has me in isolation, until I read a few scriptures that spoke completely against it. Therefore now I'm gaining understanding, it's not isolation, He's positioning me and teaching me to depend, trust in him and him alone. I so do want people of the same spirit. Hungering for God, but at this time and place in my life God is teaching me total dependence on him. Not isolation but intimacy, getting to know him deeper and deeper. The thought of Apostle Paul when God had him by himself for years , teaching him before he brought him together with the other Disciples. Now I can full appreciate and embrace this wonderful opportunity, seeing from Gods perspective. Therefore I embrace my transitioning from one chapter of my life to the next.

God bless
