Descriptive Names of Jesus

Scripture: Isaiah 9:6 – For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.
Many people think that Jesus first existed in Bethlehem as a baby. He existed before creation “in the beginning”. Actually, through Him all things were made (John 1:3). John 1:1 says “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” The Word is referred to Jesus Christ. John 1:14 lets us know that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Jesus walked among us, and He was also divine. He was 100% man and 100% God!! He lived a perfect life, died on the cross for our sin, and rose again!! (I Corinthians 15:3-4) Therefore, a person can only go to Jesus Christ for salvation (John 14:6) Acts 4:12 says “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
From Isaiah 9:6 a descriptive name for Jesus is that He is the “Wonderful Counselor”! Jesus is a counselor who perfectly guides, directs and encourages. After all, He know everything! He has experienced while He was on earth the same trials and temptations that we have faced, but He has never sinned. (Hebrews 4:15) On the other hand, there are counselors who give good advice, but they don’t guide perfectly like Jesus does.
Another descriptive name from Isaiah 9:6 is that Jesus is the “Mighty God”. The Hebrew word literally means hero. Human heroes have disappointed us by failing to do what they are supposed to do or promised to do. Aren’t you glad that Jesus never fails? He always keeps His promises! Jesus is God in the flesh, truthful, faithful, mighty and almighty. He loves us so much, and He provides/cares for us.
Another descriptive name from Isaiah 9:6 for Jesus is “Everlasting Father”. Everlasting means forever. He will always exist! Additionally, Jesus is eternal. He has always existed! (John 1:1-3, John 1:14)
The last descriptive name for Jesus from Isaiah 9:6 is “Prince of Peace” I invited Jesus Christ into my life in August of 1978. Prior to my salvation, I didn’t have peace. I was at enmity with God because of my sin, and there was a void in my life. I tried to fill the void with many temporal/sinful things. Romans 5:1 says “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. To have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ is the most important decision anyone could ever make. As I began to walk with the Lord, the trials were intensified. Peace is not the absence of conflicts. We can have peace in the midst of trials, storms, concerns/conflicts. We are reassured that we can have peace that transcends our circumstances. Philippians 4:7 says “ And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Some may say you mean to tell me that I can have peace when I lose my job, when my marriage fails, or when I get a bad report from a doctor? Yes!!! John 14:27 says “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you. Not as the world giveth give I unto you”. Also, Isaiah 26:34 says “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. 4 Trust ye in the Lord forever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength:” Jesus is the Prince of Peace! We can rest in Him!
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father: Thank You for being our Wonderful Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, and the Prince of Peace! I praise and worship You! There is none like You! Thank You for loving me so unconditionally! All this I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
