Committing Our Works to the Lord
Scripture: Proverbs 16:3 (KJV) – Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established. Proverbs 16:3 (AMP) – Roll your works upon the Lord (commit and trust them wholly to Him; He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and) so shall your plans be established and succeed.
“Commit” is a word that in Hebrew literally means “to roll”. Genesis 29:3 and Psalms 22:8-9 use the idea of “rolling” something to the Lord. The idea is completely giving something over to God while depending on Him. When we ”commit” our works to the Lord, we are offering everything we do completely to Him. If we completely depend on God in our work, He will “establish” our plans. He will “bring about/cause to happen” our plans. We can expect God to bring our works to fruition in God’s way and in God’s timing when we depend on Him in our efforts or what we do. We have to seek and follow God’s will not our own will. When our will aligns with God’s will, then success will follow. It is crucial/imperative that we read/study God’s Word, the Bible, and purpose in our hearts to apply it – and use our gifts/talents.
Proverbs 16:3 reminds me of Psalms 1:1-3 - Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. Another way of saying Proverbs 16:3 is Lay upon thy works to the Lord: and “thy thoughts shall be directed”. Proverbs 3:5-6 says Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Sometimes we are so concerned with what we want, that we don’t consider what the Lord wills for us to have. Psalms 37:4-5 - Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. 5 Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. In Dr. Tony Evans’ Commentary it states “If you truly commit your activities to the Lord, it means your will is in submission to His. When that happens, your plans will be achieved, because you’re inviting His will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven (Matthew 6:10-11). Remember, Philippians 1:6 says “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father: Help me to always depend on You and have the right motive for what I do. Help me to commit my ways to You with my whole heart so that I will assurance that You are guiding my every step. Forgive me when I go astray. I realize that You are sovereign and almighty, and I trust that Your will and plans for me are best. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

I really would love to be able to depend on God. I don't know how to hear Him clearly.
I wanna hear God's voice
Kevin, I have learned that you can hear God's voice and understand it, when you pray for the holy spirit to dwell in you if you haven't already done so then ask him to open the scriptures to you and then read and expect to hear God's voice clearly and with understanding. Amen!
Luke24:45, John 16:13
Roman's 8:9-11,
Thank you for the words of encouragement. Queen,
Dolores, that was well said!
What is it to commit? Is it to commit as in a marriage relationship on a 50/50 basis, is it to commit as in being myself completely dedicated to do something, is it to commit as in the sense of giving to someone else the authority to do something for my benefit or does it mean something else?
To commit means to surrender your activities to God by telling him in prayer then he will cause you to think in the right direction ( establish your thought) that will then yield success.
Finally! A clear and simple definition of "commit" that I can actually understand and apply. Amen, heavenly Father, I roll over my desire to succeed in my digital business; I depend on you to establish my thought for my business. Thank you for guidance. May my will and yours become one; so that I can find ultimate success in my goal and in all areas of my life. In Jesus' Name.
