Intimacy with God

Scripture:  James 4:8 – Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.  Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Psalms 42:1 – As the deer panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after Thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God.

Psalms 51:10 – Create in me a clean heart O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

At Women’s Fellowship we were asked by Sis. Cheryl Torain to come up with one word that we wanted to focus on in our walk with the Lord for this year.  We had to write that word down on a piece of paper and turn it in with our name on it.  Some of the words I thought of were:  prayer, humility, submission, yielding, faith, wisdom, discernment, waiting, listening….  Then I finally decided to write down the word “intimacy” – which to me encompasses all of those words.

The model of true intimacy is the Trinity.  They are one!  Intimacy is an essential part of the very
nature of God – the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  Our intimacy with God first began in the
garden with Adam and Eve.  That’s what God desired.  When Adam sinned, the intimacy with
God was lost.  God covered Adam and Eve with animal skins.  At the cross, Jesus actually
became sin for us.  II Corinthians 5:21 says “For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew
no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”  As a result, we are able to
come to God through Jesus Christ (I Timothy 2:5)!

A personal relationship with God is not about being religious (which is man trying to get to God
through good works).  Our works are as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6).  A person cannot have intimacy
with God until he/she has a personal relationship with God through believing in Jesus Christ (the Son of God and God the Son). Acts 4:12 says “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

I invited Jesus Christ into my life in August of 1978, and I have experienced a lot in my walk with the Lord.  The more I grow in the things of the Lord, the more I realize that I haven’t arrived.  I have so much growing to do.  It is my desire to have a more intimate fellowship with the Lord Jesus, by always having an attitude of prayer/praying without ceasing, intentionally purposing to apply what I read in the Word of God, and serving the Lord faithfully.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father:  It is a privilege to have a personal relationship/fellowship with You.  Lord please help me draw closer and closer to You.  I want to be so in tuned with You that whatever You want me to do, I will do it without hesitation.  Help me to stay focused in doing Your will for my life.
