What Does the Bible Reveal About Astrology?

Scriptures: Leviticus 19:13 NKJ - “ Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defile by them. I am the Lord Your God.” Jeremiah 10:2 - …”Do not learn the ways of the nations or be terrified by signs in the heavens, though the nations are terrified by them.”

There are those who practice astrology and are in our midst today-- closer than one would think. What amazes me is I just might be seated on the church pew, next to one who practices astrology. Astrology has become more and more popular, and in many cases, used as a source of counsel. There are those who consult/seek out astrologers and use their consult as guidance for their lives.

Astrology is defined as, the study of the movements and relative positions of the celestial bodies interpreted as having an influence on human affairs. It is considered the oldest form of divination art which teaches that the relative positioning of the sun, moon, stars and planets has an influence upon individuals. For thousands of years people have been looking up in the skies. Such practices are called, stargazing, horoscope, soothsayers, fortune telling among many other forms.  People are utilizing the services of astrology consultants. It has become big business and much money is generated in its practices.

In the book of Daniel, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon summoned magicians, astrologers and another spiritualist to tell him what he had dreamed about. He needed his dream interpreted. Those men summoned, could not help king Nebuchadnezzar. These practices of the people were considered worthless (Jer. 10:3). The Israelites were not permitted by God to practice divination as they went in to dispossess the land. (Deut. 18:9). According to Deut. 18:10-14; “There should be no one among you who practices witchcraft, soothsayers, one who interprets omens, or sorcerers, one who conjures (cast out) spells. Such things are an abomination to the Lord.

My beloved brothers and sisters, let us lay aside all practices of divination. They are designed by men in an effort to use God’s creation in a detestable manner. Such things were an abomination to the Lord centuries ago -- and they are thought of in the same manner today. God has not changed His mind, and his Word about Himself sovereign. For He says, I am the Lord Your God. In Him put your trust.

Prayer: Heavenly Father you are the God of this universe. You have not ceased to be in control. I put my trust in, You and You have not ceased to direct my path.  In Jesus’ name. Amen
