Mercy That Suits My Case

Scripture: Ephesians 2:4 HCSB - But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love that He had for us.

All of us have witnessed someone doing something that they shouldn’t and not get punished. How about someone stealing something or a classmate cheating on a test? Instead of shaking our fist at God or complaining that it’s not fair that they didn’t get caught, we should be thanking God for His mercy! Because if He was fair to us, we wouldn’t be able to handle it!

When God doesn’t give us what we deserve, we experience His mercy. God’s mercy keeps us! It protects us, it corrects us! And no matter how much of it we use in a 24-hour period, His mercies are new every morning! Think about it: His mercies do not allow us to be consumed! Ain’t that good news?! If we feel overwhelmed or are at our wit’s end, we can be comforted in knowing His mercies prevent us from being destroyed! And guess what else? He has mercy that suits each one of our cases! You see, the mercy I need may not be the same mercy you need. But no matter what issues you and I have, His mercy is great enough to cover all of it!

Now, let’s not get it twisted – God’s mercy shouldn’t be taken for granted. We should appreciate and celebrate the fact that God has the authority to spare us from the consequences of our sins or allow us to be held accountable for what we’ve done.

“Great is Your MERCY towards me; Your lovingkindness towards me; Your tender MERCY I see, day after day! Forever faithful towards me; Always providing for me; Great is Your Mercy towards me; Great is Your Grace!”

Prayer: Father, have mercy upon us! We fail You time after time and yet Your love, grace and mercy remain! Thank You God for not being fair! We realize that our human minds can’t even comprehend the great love You have for us – it never fails, it never gives up, it never runs out on us! Help us to embrace all of the good You have for us and want for us! And help us to reciprocate it the way You command us to. In Jesus’ Name we always pray, AMEN!
