Comforting Others

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NKJV - Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

God has ways of comforting us in every situation we find ourselves in. I mean, think about it – He already knows what’s going on anyway, He’s Sovereign! He’s the Author and Finisher of our faith; He is the one that orchestrates and allows things to happen in our lives that work out for our good (Romans 8:28) and brings Him glory!

Think of a time when you needed to be comforted – maybe the loss of a loved one, a bad day at work or heated discussion with a mate, coworker or friend. Things may have been said or done that caused you to be angry or feel hurt. Whatever the issue, you just wanted to feel better! After you have a little talk with Jesus and tell Him how you honestly feel, you feel a sense of peace and comfort … almost like God our Father has wrapped you up in Him arms! Everyone wants to feel His presence, everyone!!

Sometimes, God uses His children to comfort one another. It could be a smile, a hug or a kind word you offer that lightens someone’s load or brightens their day. Never underestimate the value of your presence in another person’s life – friend or stranger. We need each other to grow and survive this thing called life. We may not have it all together, but together we have it all! As each one of us does their part, we allow the Spirit to flow from one to another.

As someone lights your candle, share your light with someone else who needs it. Allow the love, peace, joy, comfort etc. , you have experienced be shared with others around you; you never know who needs it! And besides, someone did it for you!

Prayer: Lord, thank You for how You choose to use us in each other’s lives! Sometimes, we are so caught up in our own lives that we miss opportunities to help and minister to others. Everything that we experience, good or bad, isn’t just for us – it’s also for those around us who need to be encouraged in their walk with You. Forgive us for the times we chose to ignore You and Your prompting to do unto others as You have done unto us! In Jesus’ Name we always pray … Amen!
