Waiting: A Tool of God

God teaches His children patience by making us wait and this week our Team will encourage us with a variety of devotions about “Patience to Wait on the Lord.” Meditate on this chapter this week and may your hearts be uplifted!
SCRIPTURE: “Truly my soul silently waits for God; From Him comes my salvation. 2 He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved.  3 How long will you attack a man? You shall be slain, all of you, like a leaning wall and a tottering fence. 4 They only consult to cast him down from his high position; They delight in lies; They bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah 5 My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him. 6 He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. 7 In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. 8 Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah 9 Surely men of low degree are a vapor, Men of high degree are a lie; If they are weighed on the scales, they are altogether lighter than vapor. 10 Do not trust in oppression, nor vainly hope in robbery; If riches increase, do not set your heart on them. 11 God has spoken once, Twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God.  12 Also to You, O Lord, belongs mercy; for You render to each one according to his work.” Psalm 62:1-12
Psalm 62 discusses the plentiful blessings of waiting on the Lord. You’ve heard the saying, ‘It’s a win-win situation?’ This discipline of waiting on Him-- so broad in its application-- pays off in a myriad of ways. As one of the more challenging requirements of the Christian life, frequent meditation on this chapter reminds us of the wisdom of learning to wait on the Lord with patience and confident expectancy,” [Vine’s Concise Dictionary of the Bible, 2005]. What divine truths are we instructed to cling to here?

He’s the Source, the Giver of my salvation; He’s my Defense, and my Sustainer. He’s my Avenger against those who wrongfully attack me without cause—my El Nekamoth [Ps. 18:47]. There are those in our world who delight in lies and some in our midst who may be disingenuous; they bless with their mouth, but are not really FOR us. Oh, but my family, don’t you dare fixate on these realities of life on planet earth! The psalmist tells us how waiting on the Lord guarantees us His peace that passes understanding on this journey and ultimate victory!

In Him rests my greatest expectation! Put not your weight of trust in people [Psalm 118:8]! When the Spirit repeats something, pay great attention! The psalmist is led in this chapter to repeat that the Lord is his Rock, his salvation, and his defense. Therefore, he shall NOT be moved. God is his REFUGE! Is He yours in good times and bad? He commends that we, God’s blood-purchased ones, trust in the Lord unwaveringly! See verses 6-8. No qualifications or exceptions for such steadfast reliance are ever given: it matters NOT who resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue now or next January, nor in the governor’s mansion, nor on the U.S. Supreme Court! (I know that folks of high position like to believe that they’re “calling the shots,” BUT verse nine of this chapter reminds us that they are NOT!) Behold, the bold truth proclaimed in Scriptures like Daniel 4:17, 25b, 32b, and 5:21b!

Indeed, the next time you feel the least bit put out about people and/or events, circumstances beyond your control, remind yourself of the promises made by the “Great I AM”--- promises and declarations of Who is the object of our trust, our everlasting Rock, Defense, and Sustainer.

Prayer: Dear Father, You who are the Alpha and the Omega, forgive us when we succumb to the temptation to remove our hearts from obeying Your command to wait silently, patiently, and confidently for Your deliverances, to trust in Your sustaining power, and Your complete salvation. Thank You in Jesus’s incomparable name! AMEN!
