A BIRDS-EYE VIEW, AND BEYOND

SCRIPTURE: "Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?" Matthew 6:26
We are loved. We are provided for. We should not be overtaken with worry. God adores His creation, even the birds. If they are so well taken care of, why should we be discouraged, worried, or afraid? Those sparrows don't work, nor is there anything they do that counts as meritorious. They just 'are' and God cares for them "His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.", so goes the hymn! The bird is simply a bird, and is enjoyed for simply being authentic, as created by God. Being authentic matters.

We, however, aspire to exceed being our authentic selves often, or to be less than authentic, and often mistake that aspiration, no matter how contrary the evidence, as being 'good'... not recognizing the displeasure of God. We step away, sometimes with leaps and bounds, noisily embracing the thrill of it, and sometimes drift slowly by inches, so as not to notice much, keeping it comfortable enough, even 'normal', yet not quite.

Being authentic matters. We should 'aspire'. We are called to be authentic, God's way. "He hath shewed thee, O' man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? (Micah 6:8)”  "Look at the birds of the air..." They simply are. Look at the sons and daughters of men. O' my!  Remember the new birth. Remember the adoption. Remember the price He paid. Repent for the kingdom of God is at hand. Call on Jesus. He will hear. Jesus, keep me near the cross.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, be patient with me, yet again, as I consider my own ways, and look to freshly yield to the reality of grace, as mercy allows. Bless me O' Lord, and I will be blessed. Keep me and I will be kept. Remind me, deeply, during the storms, how love never fails. As with all asking, I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
