Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus

SCRIPTURE: “From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. 67 Then Jesus said to the twelve, ‘Do you also want to go away?’ 68 But Simon Peter answered Him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’”  John 6:66-69
We all have our “go-to-songs and -scriptures” when life brings its many challenges.  They solidify that God is sovereign, omnipotent (all powerful), omniscient (all seeing/all knowing) and works all things together for our good. These scriptures bring comfort to our hearts amid troubling seasons in a weary world.  One thing we are told that we ought not do is worry. I love how Jesus asks the question in Matthew 6:27, “Which of you by worrying can add one cubit (18 inches) to his stature?”  We know we cannot add anything to our height by worrying, but we can add stress, high blood pressure, increase blood sugar, and anxiety.

Each of us who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus should expect seasons of grief/persecution (2 Timothy 3:12)  and they are not meant to cause us to run away from Jesus, but run to Him in prayer and supplication. Yes, even songs and scriptures:
  • “Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,”  ”Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
  • “just to take Him at His Word,” “As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.” Psalm 18:30
  • “Just to rest upon His promise,”  “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us." 2 Corinthians 1:20
  • “just to know ‘Thus saith the Lord’”  “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6
  • “Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!”   “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses;
     But we will remember the name of the Lord our God.” Psalm 20:7
  •  "How I've proved Him o'er and o'er;”   “Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God,” 2 Corinthians 1:21
  •  “Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!”   "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich." 2 Corinthians 8:9
  •  "Oh, for grace to trust Him more!”  “but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 3:18

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, no matter the trial we put our trust in You. Where can we go and who else can we turn? No one else is able to heal, save, or deliver like You. No one else is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we can ask or think like You. No one else has the words of eternal life. You have established a narrow path and a difficult way and few of us traverse this road, but when we do, “Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Blessed be the name of the Lord for it is so sweet to trust in Jesus! Amen.
