Behind the Closed Door

SCRIPTURE: “And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons, then pour it into all those vessels and set aside the full ones.” II Kings 4:4
I can imagine a bit of wonderment on the part of a widow that Elisha was sent to per his request. Yet coming to him for help and doing what he asked was an exercise of faith no matter how futile it seemed. After the widow’s sons had gathered as many empty vessels as they could, they were to return home and the widow was to close the door and follow Elisha’s instructions privately.

The closed door was instructed because miracles bring about curiosity and disorder from others and could cause widespread publicity and Elisha wanted this to be avoided. The miracles that the Lord will do in our lives are many times contingent upon what goes on behind “the closed door.”

The closed door is that place where my fears and doubts can be exposed to the Lord as He begins to “pour” into my soul and spirit His confidence, strength and peace. Behind “the closed door” is where issues in my heart can be revealed between me and the Lord, it’s a safe place. Our faith is made genuine and the “super” is added to the “natural” behind the closed door!

PRAYER: Praise You my Precious Lord for the intimacy of Your handiwork in breaking, melting and molding me behind the closed doors that You might fill and use me for Your GLORY!!

May we all be so moved into such a sanctuary, that space where God and we meet for the deeper matters between us. It is a gift, be it a closet, or an ark. Lord, reveal Thy perfecting grace behind the closed doors, and find us waiting. Amen.
