FLEE APATHEISM pt2
SCRIPTURE: “Therefore, we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift
away.” Hebrews 2:1 (NKJV)
away.” Hebrews 2:1 (NKJV)
Do you ever imagine the day when you will actually stand before Jesus Christ, your blessed Savior,
giving Him an account of how you lived your life on this terra firma? The Spirit tells us that we certainly will, you know [Romans 14:12]. In that anticipation, as the Word says, what sort of people ought we to be? We definitely want to avoid being apatheists, don’t we? What are some steps that we can take to distance ourselves from that “lukewarmness,” so detested by our Lord in Revelation 3:16?
(1) We can start by realizing that people actually stunt their own spiritual growth when they compartmentalize their faith and the teachings of the Bible. Cease and desist from being among those who ponder the Scriptures for only two hours of a Sunday worship service, and then promptly dismiss the practice of His presence the remaining six days. We must assertively pursue growth in Jesus; it doesn’t happen by osmosis! “Solid food belongs to those who are of full age…those who by reason of USE have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil [Heb. 5:14]. Your only solid food must NOT be what is received on Sunday mornings here at Genesis Bible Fellowship; rather, to grow up in Christ, one should return to their own “spiritual buffet,” for additional helpings of the word of God several times per week.
(2) Souls who claim Jesus as their Lord and Savior must daily desire to APPLY what they’ve read and
heard in their private Scripture reading and meditations; otherwise, one’s spiritual senses will atrophy! It’s just like our physical bodies—what we refuse to use, we lose! (We’re not talking about losing our salvation, but making ourselves ineffectual in the Christian life and perhaps even deceiving ourselves in the persistent absence of any real change in how we live, how we treat others, what we prioritize day to day. {See John 10:27, 28).
Finally, family, what’s the overriding goal if we are to flee the growing apatheism in our culture, a
practice that seeks to blend in with all the other soul-robbing “isms” that have lulled the masses to
sleep? {And they CALL themselves “woke”}—we must be ever more determined, out of love and loyalty to our precious Lord God, to draw NEAR to Him and RESIST resembling those souls who are practical atheists, agnostics, and/or---you got it-- apatheists!
PRAYER: Dear Abba, thank You for Your indwelling Spirit, who saved us to live for You, to serve You, and to encourage one another to keep fighting the “good fight” in a world that is increasingly anything BUT “woke.” “Wake up, O sleeper,” says Ephes. 5:14, “and rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
AMEN!
