Open the Eyes of My Heart

Scriptures: (2 Corinthians 4:18 NKJ) While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For, the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. (Ephesians 1:18)…the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the Saints, (Ephesians 1:19) and what is the exceeding greatness of His power towards us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power.
The Apostle Paul writes this epistle to the Ephesians, yet all he emphasizes could be for all churches. At the Apostle’s writing; All the Ephesians are believed to be Gentiles. The truth in his writing centers around “understanding of spiritual resources.” The Ephesian believers lack the ability to navigate life’s paths, requiring someone to help them see up-ahead, that which they can’t see, for they face trials of everyday life. Sometimes we become so overwhelmed focusing on problems that we forget the spiritual resources that the Lord has provided for us. They are addressed as believers rich beyond measure in Jesus Christ, yet living a difficult life because of ignorance of their wealth. The Ephesians failed to read their heavenly bank statement. Christ’s payment in full. Jesus paid it all. His death on the cross, His resurrection made possible their Salvation. Our resources include God’s grace to enrich us (I Cor.1:4-5), spiritual gifts to enable us to grow and serve (I Cor. 1:7), and we have Christ’s encouragement assuring us that He will keep us strong and safe (Icor. 1:8).
The Apostle Paul prays for their wisdom to understand divine truth and that they are wise with the knowledge of God, that they have spiritual understanding, their love abound, and that they are filled with the truth of righteousness (Eph. 1:15(-23; 3:14-21) (Phil. 1:9-11); (Col. 1:9-12) Through enlightenment, he prays that the Lord will reveal to them what they already have.
We are naturally blind to things of God; therefore, man’s natural mind cannot understand the things of God. Man needs the spirit to enlighten him (1 Cor. 2:9-16). No one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God (I Cor. 1:11). The natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God (I Cor. 1:14).
