Trusting Wholly!

Scripture: Proverbs 16:3 (AMP) - Roll your works upon the Lord, [commit and trust them wholly to Him; He will cause Your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and] so shall your plans be established and succeed.

Recently I had an opportunity to “ace” a spiritual test, and yet I became fretful, frustrated, and flustered with a work-related problem that I could not quickly or easily resolve.  (Culprit #1:  my pride) It was a situation that, in retrospect, I felt required the patience of Job, the prophetic insight of Huldah, from 2 Chronicles 34:23-25, and the inner quietude of the Proverbs 31 woman-- all rolled into one!  I would LOVE to tell you that I possessed all of those qualities “in spades,” but that is simply not true!

A persistent awareness of today’s Scripture verse requires some ongoing meditation on my part.  (Culprit #2:  a lack of trust).   “Haven’t I learned that my ways aren’t as high as Yours are? “say the lyrics of an old Avalon song.  After confessing to God my hasty detour onto “Fretfulness Road” at “Agitation Boulevard,” I thanked Him for forgiving my chronic tendency to forget His command to entrust my works wholly to Him at the start of and throughout my day! (Have the words of Proverbs 3:5, 6 (“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding.”) become a mere lofty-sounding cliché to you, or have you assigned them a permanent “active-duty post” in the performance of your daily activities?

In light of Christ’s death and resurrection, we can seek His forgiveness whenever we fail those “old tests.”  We should then forgive ourselves, remembering how our besetting sins grieve our Lord and threaten to tarnish our witness to others, and, finally in humble repentance, MOVE ON!

Prayer:  Thank You, Father, that we can rejoice anew that faith in Jesus’ redemptive sacrifice at Calvary gives His followers an enduring hope that You, Yourself, will complete us and make us what we ought to be, and that You will “establish and ground us securely, and strengthen and settle us.” Amen!
