Free At Last From Addiction

Scripture:  John 8:31-32 - Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Many of us struggle for years with personal addictions
Spiritually held hostage because of physical restrictions

Addictions stemming from alcohol, drugs, profanity, or gluttony
Or even pain killers, social media, gambling, or pornography

Trapped in a sin that we are unable to break
Fighting with natural abilities, but still no escape

My priority and pursuit expect the flesh to fix the flesh
Searching for deliverance from earthly resources, at best

I’ve joined programs, made promises, and new year’s resolutions
I’ve managed it, sought counsel, or used medication for solutions

The first step is calling it what it is before bondage unfolds
Avoiding unsuitable remedies and treatments for spiritual strongholds

I’ve prayed, attended church, and made efforts that commonly make sense
But, it means nothing, if an intimate and spiritual connection doesn’t exist

Surely, it’s good to have knowledge on what the bible has to offer
Yet, freedom of addiction is discovered in our relationship with the Author

Otherwise, I’ll become a spiritual slave answering a sin master
Far beyond just struggling, but settling as a frustrated sin manager

So, I must expose my addiction, rather than suppressing it
The cause of addiction will lead me to the cure, so He can address it

Meanwhile, the enemy wants double minded thinkers to make things hard
He wants speculations and considerations to contend against the will of God

Freedom from addiction must rely on The Truth
As we abide in Him, He abides in us as His proof

Yet, Satan doesn’t mine us sparingly serving God for religious use
His goal is for us to resort to any truth, that’s contrary to God’s truth

So, I refuse to attach my name as an addict or alcoholic
I am a converted child of the living God with a problem

Often, we hide our issues by externally dress things up
Yet, addiction influences believers and unbelievers to mess things up

Romans chapter 6 reminds me, we have a new identity in Christ
The old person is dead, newness is now attached to the issues of life

I refuse to allow sin to make itself at home within
The law of the Holy Spirit is far greater than the law of sin

The Christ that’s in me is more than enough to set me free
No longer I fight for victory, I’m able to fight from victory

Therefore, I will draw nearer to the truth which makes me free
Moreover, I will draw nearer to the Lord, where I am made free

Prayer:  Lord, my faith and hope are planted in the promises of Your Word. There’s no way I can live freely relying on my limited abilities and worldly resources. But, through You, I am more than a conqueror. Enable me Lord to fulfill my assignment despite setbacks and trials. I’m asking in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen!
