Doubt Your Doubts

Scripture:  James 1:6 “But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.”

Someone has said “Doubt your doubts before you doubt your beliefs!” There was a time of oppression in the land of Israel during the time of the Judges and the Angel of the LORD sought a man, Gideon, to bring deliverance from the Midianites. Even though he was the youngest in his father’s house and from the weakest clan, God had a plan. There are three places to look when you feel like God is nowhere to be found.

First, you will find God at the center of your suffering. Job.36:15 says “He delivers the poor in their affliction, and opens their ears in oppression.” Judges 6:13a: “Gideon said to Him, “O my lord, if the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened to us?”

Second, you will find God in the midst of your weakness. Isa. 40:29 says “He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength.” Judges 6:14 says “Then the LORD turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?”

Third, you will find God at the heart of your worship. Exo. 3:14 says “And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ” After Gideon made a sacrifice to the LORD and it was consumed, then he said in Judges 6:22 “Now Gideon perceived that He was the Angel of the LORD. So Gideon said, “Alas, O Lord GOD! For I have seen the Angel of the LORD face to face.”  The doubter now believes “My Lord and my God!”

Prayer:  Oh Lord God, thank You for being so loving and merciful to us even when we have doubted You. Your plans to mature us through suffering, weakness and worship have indeed humbled us to say “My Lord and my God”.
