THE GOSPEL OF JOHN: AN ENDEARING LOOK

SCRIPTURE: “And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these things are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.” John 20:30-31
The Holy Bible, a collection of sixty-six books, is a universal and extraordinary book with the ability to change one’s life from the moment he/she reads and believes. There lies between the pages a concern of life and death and you, my friend, and you alone can make that decision of which one. The Holy Bible is a spiritual book, and only those who have been “born again” can grasp an understanding of what is read with assistance from The Helper: “The Holy Spirit which the Father sends will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” (John 14:26).

Out of the sixty-six books sits the Gospel of John of the New Testament, a good place on which to fix your heart and mind. The obvious writer of the Gospel of John is the Apostle John, who identifies himself as the disciple Jesus loved. He spent time with Jesus, and he is known as an eyewitness to Jesus’ ministry (John 1:14, 19, 34).

The Gospel of John opens with the same three words as Genesis 1:1, “in the beginning.” John moves on to show its reader how to be “born again” and believe that Jesus is the Christ and receive “new” life in Christ. What is the goal? As written, that one might read and “believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name” (John 20:30-31). This book of John weighs heavy on words. “God so loved.… world… perish… eternal life, born again… Son of God… grace… Lamb of God… new life… Word… worship, and receive” are among many words and phrases which make the Gospel of John so spiritually endearing.

PRAYER: Lord, You have been so faithful from generation to generation. Thank You for giving the Gospel of John to children of men. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
