God’s Overflow “Through” Obedience

SCRIPTURE: “Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, ‘Bring me another vessel,’ and he said to her, ‘There is not another vessel.’ So, the oil ceased.” II Kings 4:6
The unnamed widow for whom the prophet Elisha performed a miracle was a believer in Yahweh. She was given instructions by Elisha in II Kings 4:6 in which she obeyed. II Kings 4:7 says “Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, ‘Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest.”

God in His sovereignty knew exactly how many vessels she would need to fill. The widow was now able to sell the oil, pay her debts and live on the rest. Isn’t it just like the Lord giving you more than you have asked? She was blessed to also have enough to support her and her sons until they became wage earners. Her faith was coupled with a spirit of obedience that enabled her to experience an overflow.

The Lord Jesus Christ wants to use us as an empty and broken vessel to cleanse and make whole, to fill and to use for His glory. Will you be that vessel? Ephesians 3:20 says “Now to HIM who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.”

Prayer: Obedience is truly better than sacrifice. Thank You Lord for the innumerable opportunities for us to experience You just doing what only You can do for Your Glory!!!
