A Reference Point, Not a Residence
Scripture: Philippians 3:12-16 Not that I have already attained,[c] or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have [d]apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you. 16 Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already [e]attained, let us walk by the same [f]rule, let us be of the same mind.
It’s my choice where I reside
Whether pondering what’s ahead or clinging to what’s behind
The past should only be a place of reference
Limited visits, not a permanent residence
Past hurt tries to alter my disposition, attitude, and views
It hinders deliverance by persuading what I think, say, and do
Clearly, my patterns of thinking require renewal
Turning back causes me to consider damaged feelings that accrued
Meanwhile, my character is shaped by replaying negative images
Even though indictments maybe factual, holding on to them is the enemy
Wrongdoings by me and others must be expunged
The next chapter is at risk, while choosing to read the last one
Chapters are meant for skimming, to show how far we’ve came
Not to reunite with history, but to press on with a spiritual aim
Surely, memories take us back, but dreams take us forward
The Lord has heavenly things in store for us, to presently enjoy it
Therefore, my bags are packed and prepared for the future
An eternal trip to a residence that’s sanctified and exclusive
Prayer: Lord, direct me forward. I keep trying to take the old baggage with me. There is no room to harp on the past with others or myself. You didn’t take me this far, to take me this far. Lord, I desire to press on. I desire the place that You dwell, dominate, and direct. In it all Father, I will be careful to give you all the glory. In the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, Amen!
