Faith Blinded by Need

Elisha (II Kings 4:2) asked the widow this question, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” That’s where we all start. We say, “Lord I need Your help!” and the Lord says, “What have I already given or done for you?” The widow then said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house, but a jar of oil.”

How many times do we see, not by faith, but by sight and we see nothing but the times of great testing instead of failing to remember the many times the Lord has supplied our needs or delivered us at the 12th hour! We see nothing but blinded faith that fails to recognize the benefit of the closed doors! We see nothing when God changes our circumstances to bring healing, but we want things to stay the same.

Yes, the widow had nothing in the house but a jar of oil, but that was all that she needed!! Her trial was now an opportunity for God to add sight to her faith. We see the problem, but God sees the solution; we see the barriers, but God sees the open door; we see the giants, but God sees grasshoppers; we see “now”, but God sees everything in the eternal – yesterday, today and tomorrow.

PRAYER: Hallelujah!! Thank You, Jesus, for not leaving us in the “right now”. You began a good work in us to conform us into Your image, and You will complete it. May we grow to recognize “but this is all I have” to “but this is all you need for the Lord to be glorified.
