The Glorious God-Man Christ Jesus
SCRIPTURE: “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:5-11

The Lord Jesus Christ came into the world not just to die for us, but also to identify with us. He exampled the supreme demonstration of humility. The only way that God’s people can experience unity in the body of Christ is through the attitude of humility. So “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 2:5) And what mind is that? Christ had the mind of humility.
It is possible to be too big for God to use you, but never too small for God to use you. The fundamental law in Christ’s classroom of learning is denying self for His glory and honor, denying self for the brethren and even denying our own selfish appetites.
Matthew 16:24-25 says “Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.”’ Jesus made Himself of no reputation – kenosis – the Greek word for emptying Himself. The challenge in Matthew 16 is for us to do a “self-emptying.” Sanctification is the process of becoming more like Jesus through brokenness and obedience.
PRAYER: Precious Jesus, the Glorious God-Man, thank You who knew no sin to be identified with sin for me that through salvation I can experience Your righteousness. Help me to continue this journey of dying to self that I might truly experience life in Christ.
