Taking Refuge in Our Eternal God

SCRIPTURES: "The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms; He will thrust out the enemy from before you, and will say, ‘Destroy!’" Deuteronomy 33:27  

"God is our refuge and strength, very present help in trouble" Psalms 46:1 NKJ

The word refuge takes on a meaning of a mansion or an abiding place, which gives the thought that God is our abode, our spiritual home. There is sweet satisfaction and comfort associated with that definition. Our home can be thought of as a place that is dearest to us and a place where we may retire to, to get away from it all --no matter how modestly furnished or if, laid out like the Kings’ palace and, or perhaps, a cottage on the beach. It is at home where we feel most safe. We can attempt to shut the world about us out and dwell therein a quiet peace and for the most part quietness with security. At home we take our rest and repose after being beat up by the world or from being fatigued or from toils and the troubles of the day.

Far dearer is our blessed God, in whom we live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28). Never were there people who were so well sheltered. Never were people so well supported. Underneath the everlasting arms -- arms which believers have been wonderfully sustained (2 Corinthians 12:9). The eternal God is their refugee. Never were people so well secured and protected. When with God, we ‘fear no evil.’ He is our shelter and retreat, our refuge. In God our heart finds rest after we have been confronted with life’s troubles. When we turn to God, our soul rests with ease. At home is the place of truest happiness for most, yet it is in God that our hearts find true delight. We have joy in Him, which far exceeds any other joy. God is our home, our refuge and His love alone strengthens us. While we see the person of His dear Son and the suffering of our Redeemer, it yet constrains us to continue to labor in His cause. Though we take refuge in our eternal God, we must also work and work, for there are yet many to be saved.

PRAYER: Lord You have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God. You have protected and sustained me for Your divine purpose. To You I give praise! Amen!
