Awesome Infinitude

SCRIPTURE: “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.”  Isaiah 40:28
As time passes I am increasingly awestruck by the infinite understanding of the living God who reveals Himself in the creation, His Word, and in us, if we’re paying attention. The eminent preacher, Aiden Wilson Tozer, [4/12/1897 – 5/12/1963], more commonly known as A.W. Tozer, wrote many books about what he called our Lord’s “divine infinitude.” Inasmuch as God’s very nature is infinite, as one writer put it, “…everything that flows out of it is also infinite.” As we spend time in His word, we should be encouraged to simply rest in the fact of His unfathomability and in His infinite knowledge of every one of us. His foreknowledge alone, along with His other incomprehensible attributes, is beyond ASTOUNDING!

Frequent reflection on the Lord’s thorough knowledge of His elect people—rich and poor, famous and obscure-- begs the question of what need do we have to ever succumb to anxiety, worry, fear, or uncertainty? Our God of infinite understanding is never shocked, taken aback, or even remotely impressed with anything that happens down here. He is not ever perturbed by anything we errant human beings do! (I find great comfort in that fact). If we never knew anything else about this God who is also known as Adonai [Master over ALL], El Emunah [the Faithful God], Elohim Machase Lanu [God our Refuge], among numerous other titles that reveal His glorious divine character, His infinite understanding of us who are His through trusting in His only begotten Son should inspire us daily to renew our heart-loyalty, praise, and love for Him in our living.

PRAYER: Dear Abba, thank You for the awesome revelation of Your infinitude. May our ongoing study of Your Holy Word and obedience to the same deepen our level of unwavering trust in all that You are, and in all that You’ve purposed to do in these temporal earthly lives that we’ve been given. In Christ’s name; amen!
