Opening Your Treasures

SCRIPTURE: "And having heard the king, they went their way; and lo, the star which they had seen in the east went on before them, until it came and stood over where the Child was. And when they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And they came into the house and saw the Child with Mary, His mother; and they fell down and worshipped Him; and opening their treasures they presented to Him gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh." Matthew 2:9-11
Whether put upon the shepherds in the field working the night shift, or the exceptionally gifted and knowledgeable magi, the glorious revelation of God to men is always with an impact. These men sacrificed to follow this astronomical anomaly, this unusual 'star', which led them to the Christ Child. God worked through the science of their time to draw them. God granted them extraordinary intuition to navigate across the threat of Herod the king. God kept them, and by their obedience the Lord was glorified! This was a close encounter of the holy kind.

Ordinary men, though distinguished among men, entered the remarkable drama of 'God with us'. The consequence was great joy, and the privilege of giving, in this instance, the informative treasures of gold [symbolic of the Christ as King], frankincense [unveiling of the Christ's status as High Priest], and myrrh [descriptive of Him as Prophet]. Of all of the treasures offered to the Lord, the greatest treasure 'opened' before the Lord was the heart of each of these seekers.

Now, how are we with our own hearts before God? Are we open to Him? That is the question. The big idea is this: "Whatever you do, do your work 'heartily', as for the Lord rather than for men; knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. Colossians 3:23-24"  "Ponder the path of your feet; then all of your ways will be sure. Proverbs 4:26" You have a treasure to give. Spare not your heart before Jesus, and know His joy. Spread the same, to His glory, one blessed step at a time. "Let everything that has breath, praise the Lord! Psalm 150:6"
Amen!

PRAYER:
Heavenly and eternal Father, bless You for Jesus. Thank You for Your Spirit and for the Word of life. Words fall short for the gratitude You are due, for the redeeming love You have given. Thank You blessed Savior! "Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invincible, the only wise God, be honor and glory, forever."
Amen. Amen. Amen.
