In a Pit?
SCRIPTURE: “I would have fainted unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” Psalm 27:13

I would have fainted unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. It was in 1997 when this verse got my attention. I heard it used during the New Year’s testimony service at Genesis Bible Fellowship Church. I was WOWED by the verse. It said so much; and the young lady’s testimony of God’s relief in her trials made the verse speak so much louder. There are valleys in life that almost feel like pits difficult to escape. Those low places can have you gasping for air. “Where are you, God?” ...seems to be our very sentiment. Almost as if you, somehow, believe God has left His post and forsaken you.
I can think of circumstances that occurred in my own life that caused me to lose heart; or yes, situations that had me shaking at the knees. In times like those, we need our God to show up. No doubt about it! My grandmother used to tell anyone excited in her presence, “settle down!” The sooner you are able to settle your heart, the sooner you are able to glean and benefit from the provision of our Almighty God. The verse mentioned above implies that the Lord is in the business of sending us “winks” of His goodness. He causes us to climb out of our defeated thoughts and see Him and all His goodness high and lifted. He has all power to save us from any source of physical and or mental destruction. He is our Immanuel; God with us! (Matthew 1:23)
Yes, He is our ever present Help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1). He promised us that in this life we will have trouble; but peace is always found in Him (John 16:33). Here is why we should prepare. Gather your specific verses and hymns to use just for when you find yourself in a “pit”. Be “intentional” (says our Sis Cheryl); and do not allow those low places to keep you captive. When David found himself in a dilemma, he encouraged himself in the Lord His God (Samuel 30:6). Here is where our faith prevails. When we can choose to trust God so much so that what He has said in His Word, what he has done in our lives, etc. has the intensity and leverage to lift us up and cause us to live above what we see before us. For we are hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3); God is our hiding place (Psalm 32:7)! Remember He ‘ever’ causes us to triumph (2 Corinthians 2:14) and to be more than conquerors (Romans 8:37)!
PRAYER: Lord, thank You for Your ever present provision! We have no place else to go; we are absolutely nothing without You. You are our safety, shield and our refuge. We want to always run to You, our sufficient One, our Strong Tower and not to idols or to any other thing that may interrupt our amazing relationship with You, oh God. Thank You for what You are doing in us all so we may look more and more like Your Son, the Christ. In Jesus’ Name-Amen!
