Mission Accomplished

SCRIPTURE: “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”  Romans 6:23
“Jesus paid it all! All to Him I owe. Sin had left a crimson stain (and) He washed it white as snow.” That alone should have you rejoicing. The cost of sin is death, but on the cross Jesus paid our debt. He actually said, “Your debt has been paid”. “Tetelestai” (te-tel- la- stai), the Hebrew word for the phrase, 'It is finished,' literally means, the sacrifice is complete, or the debt has been paid in full. As adults, we can fully understand someone coming in and paying a bill for us. This is what Jesus did. He was obedient to the cross. The life of Christ has been a journey of purpose even before birth.

Jesus began walking in His purpose in the beginning. Although Christ lived on earth 33 years His purpose began in the beginning.

1. "In the beginning was the Word (Christ) and the Word (Christ) was with God, and the Word (Christ) was God (John 1:1)." This is amazing because the beginning is the beginning.

2. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1) and after the earth was formed, They made man in Their image (Genesis 1:26). Relate that back to in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

3. Moving forward…Mary was betrothed to Joseph and before they came together physically, Mary was found with the child of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:18). "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth (John 1:14)."

Christ’s purpose was to save mankind from sin. Prior to Christ, an unblemished lamb was sacrificed to atone for sin, but that lamb could not offer true atonement instead only be offered in obedience to God. Jesus became the sacrificial lamb, completely unblemished, completely God, living without sin in complete obedience to the Father. “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world (John 1:29).” “But you were redeemed not with perishable things, such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect (1 Peter 1:19).”  Throughout His life on earth, Christ was always walking in His purpose. When the time had come, Christ became sin for us, enduring physical pain, mental and emotional anguish, and separation from the Father (Matthew 27:46). In the last moments of life, Jesus took the time to tell the world that the debt of sin was paid in full with His blood…tetelestai…it is finished (John 19:30). Mission Accomplished!

PRAYER: Rejoice!! Rejoice!! Because for all who believe the price of sin has been paid (John 3:16). There is no longer a need to sacrifice the blood of goats, bulls, or lambs (Leviticus 16:8-28) because He, Christ, became the sacrificial lamb. Rejoice!! Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us so much that You gave Your only begotten Son to die for the sins of the world. The world would be lost without Him. We praise Jesus and are so grateful that He walked in His purpose from the beginning of time showing His humanity along with his deity. Lord, thank you for accomplishing the mission and paying our debt in full. In Jesus name, Amen.
