Patience to Wait on the Lord

A famous Italian tailor asked an impatient client, “Do you want it fast or do you want it good?”  While we are tempted to say “fast,” to wait is not only “good,” but all things work together for our “good.” So this week our Team will encourage us with a variety of devotions about “Patience to Wait on the Lord.” Meditate on this chapter this week and may your hearts be uplifted!
SCRIPTURE: “Truly my soul silently waits for God; From Him comes my salvation. 2 He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved.  3 How long will you attack a man? You shall be slain, all of you, like a leaning wall and a tottering fence. 4 They only consult to cast him down from his high position; They delight in lies; They bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah 5 My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him. 6 He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. 7 In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. 8 Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah 9 Surely men of low degree are a vapor, Men of high degree are a lie; If they are weighed on the scales, they are altogether lighter than vapor. 10 Do not trust in oppression, nor vainly hope in robbery; If riches increase, do not set your heart on them. 11 God has spoken once, Twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God.  12 Also to You, O Lord, belongs mercy; for You render to each one according to his work.” Psalm 62:1-12
Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God,” the I AM that I AM, Sovereign, All Powerful, All Knowing, the Altogether Lovely One. He only is my Rock, my Salvation, and my Defense. But confusion, doubt and frustration encompass my heart at this time, therefore I must “do something, anything!” Yes, this is Satan’s advice for the soul – act impulsively and prayerlessly.

However, the song “Be Still, My Soul” by Katharina Von Schlegel says, “Be still my soul – the Lord is on thy side! Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain; leave to thy God to order and provide. In every change He faithful will remain. Be still, my soul thy best, thy heavenly Friend. Thru thorny ways leads to a joyful end.” Wait – to stop, to cease, rest, be silent – the soul is to wait silently for God alone (Psalm 62:1,5). The flesh wants it NOW, but God says WAIT!!! Quietly the Holy Spirit will speak to our hearts in His still small voice to lead us to a place of quietness so that He can direct our path.

God has given us one of many promises according to Isaiah. 40:31 “But those who wait on the Lord, shall renew their strength (are you anxious and tired) WAIT; they shall mount up with wings like eagles (need to rise above your circumstances) WAIT; they shall run and not get weary (the Lord is taking too long) WAIT; they shall walk and not faint (I want to give up) but God says WAIT!!

Prayer:
Lord, I truly thank You for Your eternal patience. Your ways and Your timing are so eternally perfect, and all Your plans will be fulfilled. May I faithfully keep my eyes fixed on You to trust You and WAIT for Your will to be done. Amen.
