Protect Ya Neck – Satan is Seeking Someone to Devour
This week, our Devotional Team addressed the topic, “Satan’s Desire to Devour the Ministry” We pray that the Word of God and their perspectives were a blessing! This is another “must have” scripture, so hide it in your heart!
SCRIPTURE: “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” 1 Peter 5:8
Ofttimes, we approach life very carefree until something happens. People in general tend to be reactive instead of proactive. However, there are some people who live their lives on high alert. These people not only know where danger lives, they plan for it. Imagine the caveman, he could not leave the cave and wander without knowing where the saber-toothed cat lived and roamed. Likewise, in modern times a person can live carefree in certain parts of the world while others must be on high alert to survive. Truthfully, there should be a balance but many times there is not. People should be able to relax, sometimes. Those who cannot relax often struggle with post-traumatic stress and those who are carefree all the time may become victims. As believers, it is important to know your enemy and how he works. The Bible tells us that we should not underestimate Satan and his demons (2 Peter 2:10-12). Nor should we be afraid of Satan and his demons (1John 4:4). However, you must understand that there is a clear and present threat against the ways of the Lord. There is a clear and present threat against God’s people and God’s ministry. The threat is real and powerful and ironically the predator is single-minded. As a result, we also should be of sober spirit and be alert otherwise we may be devoured.
Believers should be prepared to fight, they should expect a fight, and not be afraid to fight even though our adversary is stronger and more powerful. How do you approach such a fight?
1. Be of sober spirit – Have a single-minded focus. Live to live again (Min. Arnell) or with eternity in
view. (Colossians 3:2)
2. Be alert – Do not clutter your mind with ungodly things: horoscopes, witchcraft, fortune tellers etc.
(Deuteronomy 18:10-14)
3. Train (2 Timothy 2:15), Pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians), and Yield to the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5).
4. Do not be afraid of Satan because of his power – He who is in you is greater than he who is in the
world. (1John 4:4)
5. Understand the adversary’s plan – to seek (prowls), to make afraid (roars), and to devour. (1 Peter 5:8)
6. Be dressed for the fight – Put on the whole armor of God. (Ephesians 6:11-18)
A prepared and vigilant believer is the most successful. Understand that the enemy’s sole focus is to seek and destroy anything that uplifts the Lord. Do not be taken aback by this, instead be ready so you do not have to get ready.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father thank You for the training facility that You have provided so we can prepare for this fight. Lord, Your Word tells us that we must be ready because Satan is looking, that the fight will be brought to us, and the goal is to destroy. Lord, thank You for Your Word, Your guidance, and the Holy Spirit; with these things we are fully prepared for battle. Forgive us Father, when we neglect training, when we cower in fear of the enemy, or fall for his tricks. Thank You for reminding us who we are fighting against and how that battle is won. And Lord thank You for Your Son, Jesus the Christ who has already defeated Satan and makes intercessory for us. In the matchless name of Jesus, Amen.
