God Uses a Favored Servant to Bring to Life the Impossible

In the days leading to Christmas and the New Year let us focus on the coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. While many debate the actual date of our Savior’s birth, we rejoice that he has come, just as our Father said He would! So as we leave those details aside for men to grapple with, let us focus on the miracle and the fulfillment of Jesus' birth!
SCRIPTURE:  "Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” 29 But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. 30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” 34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”  Luke 1:26-34
The scriptures above give an account of an appointment by God’s angel Gabriel to a young, engaged women named Mary. This truth is recorded in the gospel according to Luke of the New Testament that God’s purpose might be fulfilled. This narrative, no doubt, is no ordinary day in the life of this women named Mary of Nazareth, a city of Galilee, nor is this an ordinary visit, or an ordinary message. The turn of events on this day is filled with detailed emotionally packed words from a heavenly being. A testament of Mary’s faith in Luke 1:38, indicates that she grew up feeding on the Psalms and Old Testament prophesies. Mary’s life is not the only one affected by these sayings; but the future of all humankind will be forever changed.

For God is doing a new thing in the life of humankind. He shows favor towards His servant Mary. By the Holy Spirit, she is to conceive (without a man in her life) and give birth to a male child. This child is the Son of the Most High God, bearing both divine nature and a human nature union. He is God in the flesh to fulfill scripture; “Son of God.” The Old Testament scripture Isiah 9:6-7 bear witness of the Son of God’s conception, birth, childhood, and His reign with no end. God is able to bring about the impossible – for His divine purpose. Let us remember, that “with God nothing is impossible.”

Prayer: Lord, may we all look upon narratives in Your Word not as mere stories, but Your foundational truth. You address every subject in Your Word and that truth is absolute and non-negotiable. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
