THIS I KNOW: Watch That Pride!
June will feature Devotionals written by our GBFC Youth. It is good to read godly inspiration from our youth. Be encouraged by God's Word working in the hearts of our young people.

SCRIPTURE: “I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.” Philippians 4:12
The Lord has shown what I am, and what I am not. One thing that Pastor said was that Psalms 119 will especially show you what you are NOT. Pride is something that I struggle with, especially as a musician/composer/creative, and that pride goes both ways. When you attach yourself so deeply to your craft and you see your shortcomings, you’ll think that failure means you’re a failure. The other side of the coin, if you start to see some success, you start to think “oh that was amazing…so…I’M amazing!” While confidence is imperative, pride is destructive. The Lord showed me I was prideful by letting me have dry spells. He also showed me that I wasn’t giving Him any of the glory for the success that only came through Him. I wasn’t thanking Him as much for my successes or praying as much before I started a new project. He showed me that He is always worthy of my praise and my prayer no matter how successful or unsuccessful I may be. He showed me humility. That’s a virtue that I know I’m going to be continually learning on my walk with Jesus.
PRAYER: Lord, please forgive me for my pride. I know I have a tendency to feed into my success and let my head blow up, but that is never what You intend when You allow me to see success. Please remind me to give You all the glory, honor, and praise and help me have a spirit of humility and thanksgiving. In Jesus’s name I pray, Amen.
