God Knows What He is Doing!
SCRIPTURE: “He is despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:5-6
When Jesus died on the cross, it was the Father dispatching and dispensing all of His wrath and His anger that He feels about your sin and my sin. Every bit of anger and undiluted wrath He poured it out on His Son. Even though it is difficult to quantify it is what makes the cross so horrifying, because it was not Romans, it was not Jews, it was God! It was the predetermined counsel of God that the Son should go and die for the sin of the world. Jesus suffered the wrath of God. He suffered our consequences and when you say, “No” to Him, you’re saying I’m going to take my own. I don’t want You, Jesus. I don’t want what You did for me! I want to take my own.
PRAYER: Our God and our Father, the purpose of Your condescending was to save me from the eternal consequences of my sin. It is a sin debt whose repayment I cannot afford. I cannot bear the burdens of my sin like Jesus did. I cannot receive in myself Your anger and undiluted wrath and I praise You because You never asked me to do that. All You have asked is that we would BELIEVE that Jesus is the promised Savior, the only One fitting to take the punishment for the sin of the world. Your Word says that if You were to keep a record of our sins, who could stand? Who can stand before You justified in their sins? The only begotten Son, He is the only One who could stand before You and take sin debt of this world! Oh, thank You God! Oh, thank You, Jesus!
