Christ – Our Steadfast Foundation

Scripture:  I Corinthians 15:58 - Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Christ is our steadfast foundation.  In this verse, Paul let the believers know that they could be steadfast and unmovable in their faith, because of the resurrection power of Jesus Christ.  They were called to stand firm on their spiritual foundation that they had in Christ Jesus – and not to be drifting away from their hope of the gospel – and to continue in their work for the Lord – knowing that their labor was not in vain.   To be steadfast is to continually move forward and not look back.  Hebrews 6:19-20 - Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; 20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

Christ is our unmovable foundation. Luke in the book of Acts used the term for unmovable to describe Paul being shipwrecked in Acts 27:41.  Acts 27:41 says “And falling into a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the forepart stuck fast, and remained unmoveable, but the hinder part was broken with the violence of the waves.”  Paul said that he experienced all kinds of trouble and challenges of this life.  He said nothing would move him or stop him from finishing His work in the ministry.  Matthew 20:28 – “Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”  We are to ask God to strengthen us as we serve Him.  Nehemiah 6:9 - For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.  Hebrews 6:10 - For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

Although we may not immediately see the reward for our good doings, they will come in God’s timing.  Do not give up. Keep pressing on by faith and confidence in God.

Prayer:  Dear Heavenly Father:  Help us to serve You with our whole heart as to the Lord and not unto men as it says in Colossians 3:23.  All this I pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen.
