Made for His Praise!

Scripture:  Psalms 33:1 (NKJV) - Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous!  For praise from the upright is beautiful.

There are many earthly experiences in this temporal life over which we can rejoice.  There’s the unforgettable taste of an exceptional mouth-watering meal, the experience of great friendships, or perhaps the attainment of a scholarship, the birth of a baby, and countless other joyful events.  We can praise our God for all of these good things in life, remembering, of course, to not put the enjoyment of them in the place where God alone should be preeminent.  We must be wary of setting up idols in our lives.

These thoughts beg the question:  Does the Lord God occupy the highest place in your heart?  Is He the greatest Source of your rejoicing and praise on a daily basis?  In contrast, are you like me sometimes-- becoming a bit languid in spirit where a heart attitude of praise to God is concerned?   Sometimes, when the “rivers of life” are placid, and no foes are nipping at our heels, we can be distracted briefly from prioritizing a genuine devotional time.  Ask most of us at any time, ‘How’s your relationship or fellowship with Jesus?’ We know how to respond rightly with something like, ‘Oh, He’s my Lord and Savior, my El Elyon, my rock, my fortress, my Deliverer!’  However, do you not find your heart, dear saint, engaging in the deepest purest praise when trials arise in your life?

I have been frequently reminded of that tendency of mine over the years, and I am learning, with each passing week, month, and year to keep my “Jesus praise meter” set on HIGH, for He is ever-WORTHY!  As one theologian said recently:  “I have all the need; my Jesus has all the SUPPLY!”

Prayer:  Dear Abba, I praise You because of all that You are, because of all that You represent—in Your matchless love, unending mercy, grace, and faithfulness toward us! Bless Your holy and reverend name! Thank You and amen!
