Resist Running Ahead!

Scripture:  “Therefore,  do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things.  Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”    Matthew 6:34 (NKJV )

I know of a man in the workplace who always replies, when asked how he’s doing, ‘Oh I’m just rollin’ along, singing a song.’  I believe it’s his attempt to convey a laid-back outlook on the day.  We are all familiar with another saying, “Take life one day at a time.”  (My husband once said, ‘How else are you gonna take it)? Another good one was quoted often back in the day—“Yesterday’s a canceled check; tomorrow’s a promissory note, so why worry?”  The point may seem a bit cliché, and yet, how often do we find ourselves-- despite our years of trusting Christ—unintentionally identifying with that classic Jed Clampett” line from the old “Beverly Hillbillies TV series, where Jed tells his bumbling nephew Jethro, “Whoa there, boy, you strokin’ ‘fore you even hit the water!”  We may chuckle at that remark, but often, isn’t that where some of us live?  Many of us vocalize, ‘Jesus Can Work It Out,’ but then we turn around and snatch the problem right back out of our Lord’s hands before sundown! Before noon, in some cases!

To become more steadfast in experiencing the privileged joy of our Lord’s peace, we need to periodically ask ourselves some questions, and be brutally honest in our answers.  Do I really believe that He knows and cares about all that pertains to me? Psalm 138:8 says He does! Do I believe that this Christ daily bears my burdens?  Psalm 55:22, Psalm 68:19, John 14: 27, the entirety of John chapter 17, along with several other verses throughout His love letter, the Holy Bible, all affirm these truths-- especially for those who belong to Him!  This mindset, brothers and sisters, is by NO means a “one-and-done” deal; Oh, no—as often as the cares and/or worries of this life try to intercept our Lord’s bestowal of His perfect peace upon you and I---in the Old King James vernacular—we “must NEEDS,” to reposition our gaze upon what our Savior God says—“Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”  There’s no need to borrow it from a future day!

Prayer:  Dear Father, help us to truly learn the lesson of  “putting it all into Your hands,” by glancing at our problems, but GAZING at Your precious promises!  Great is Your faithfulness!  Thank You, in Jesus’ precious name; amen!
