Loving Our Enemies

Scripture:  Matthew 5:44 - But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,

I have been searching for an alternative remedy
How do I dodge and escape loving my enemies?

Surely, my purpose is to aim to please the Lord
Yet, I am commanded to love my enemies, but I avoid

I’m willing to praise the Lord and acknowledge my Savior
But, I am challenged and unwilling to love my neighbors

This gesture is unnatural for the world and the church
Eliminating feelings and pride in order to put God first

Lord, you know what this person did to offend me
So, it just doesn’t make sense, to love my enemies

I understand my ways are not Yours
In fact, I’m astonished that You still love me by choice

You’ve demonstrated love to me at my very worse
Yet, I use every reason not to obey and make You first

The same mercy You’ve given to me, I should be extending
Denying a lost or discouraged soul by not loving my enemy

Choosing to turn my back on a potential new sister or brother
Knowingly, You showed me grace and love, for the sake of others

Therefore, I maybe worldly bashed, shamed, embarrassed, or scorned
But, loving my enemy leads to my freedom, others salvation, and heavenly awards

Prayer:  Only You Lord can teach me to love my enemies. This is Your commandment, so whether I understand it or not, it’s my duty to love. I’m reminded I know longer live for myself. Your love impacts further than I will ever know. Give me what I need to bring You glory Father. I’m asking this in the matchless name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
