A Heavenly Calling!

Scripture:  Hebrews 3:1 (NASB) - Therefore holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and  High Priest of our confession.

It is a worthy meditation, dear saints, to reflect upon the many wondrous callings that our Lord has ordained for us.  Such reflections give us a renewed consciousness and anticipation of our heavenly destination!   Think about it.  We are, as one writer put it, “citizens of heaven more than citizens of earth.” Consequently, we who trust in Christ Jesus are not defined by this fallen world’s definition of success or worthiness.  (1 Jn. 2:15-17) We are not caught up in its “webs of confusion” about who God is, what He requires of us, or how He defines “righteousness.”  We’re called to try the spirits BY the Spirit, in keeping with 1 John 4:1, 2—for there are many false spirits running amuck in this world! We must not neglect daily reading, studying, and/ or meditating upon the Bible for ourselves, praying for the Lord’s discernment!

In reflecting upon our title scripture, what are some of those blessed callings to which the Spirit of the living God calls us?  We are called to His peace (John 14:27; Colossians 3:15).  We are called to be courageous, (Joshua 1:9).  We are called to NOT fear what THEY (i.e., the unbelievers) fear, (1 Peter 3:14); and how we need to seriously intensify our obedience to the call to “fear not” in THESE days)!  We are called to love our enemies— a heart attitude that clearly requires the Holy Spirit’s enabling power!  None can even be saved by mere fleshly efforts; says our Lord—“..the flesh profits nothing.”  (Jn 6:63)   This is why His Spirit calls us to “Walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” (Galatians 5:16)

Prayer:  Father God, thank You for all of the divine assistance Your Spirit provides for us in Your Holy Word.  Therefore, ours is a “blessed assurance,” and we can deem ourselves equipped to  “press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”  In His glorious name; Amen!
