Looking Forward to My Inheritance

Scripture:  Accept God’s Purpose - Ephesians 1:11 “In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will…”

Christ is the source of our divine inheritance. Before the earth was formed, God sovereignly determined that every elect sinner, however vile, useless and deserving of death - by trusting in Christ would be made righteous.  The word translated “works” is the same one in which “energy,” “energetic,” and “energize” are derived.  When God created the world, He gave it sufficient energy to begin immediately to operate as He had planned.  It was not simply ready to function, but was created functioning.  As God works out His plan according “to the counsel of His will,” He energizes every believer with the power necessary for his spiritual completion. (MacArthur Study Bible)

We were made by God and for God’s purposes and pleasure. I remember the night when I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ into my heart, the blinders fell from my eyes and I felt a spiritual energy because I knew that I was forgiven. Having been given this divine inheritance through our Lord Jesus Christ, let us remember to stay on God’s timetable – Psalm 90:12 “So teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts to wisdom.”

In light of the brevity of life, God says that we are to evaluate how wisely we use time.  Because Christ is the source of our inheritance, we must remember that there are no such things as accidents, incidents, or anything that is wasted because God is sovereign and everything is on His timetable.  The Bible has a familiar saying throughout the Old Testament “and it came to pass” which testifies that what God says “will come to pass.”

Prayer:  Lord, it is in You that we have obtained this great inheritance. Prepare our hearts for a continual expectation of the things that You have prepared for us. Even so come Lord Jesus!!
