America Loves Me, She Loves Me Not
Scripture: Psalm 89:14 - Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Mercy and truth go before Your face.
America the beautiful!
I loved her so much because she is the land of opportunity
Despite what I read about her dark past
I chose to forgive, believing the oppression wouldn’t last
So, I embraced the red, white, and blue colors
America appeared perfect, I fell in love with her
Early on I was taught to sing to her with respect
She promised equality, freedom, and protection
I believed her potential and progression was enough
I was even won over by her slogan, “In God We Trust”
However, recent events have me thinking twice
Footage from acts of racism and brutality haven’t been Christ-like
It has me thinking that America hasn’t changed
She appeased me in some areas, but the foundation is the same
The images of colored and innocent victims are revealing
The retribution you offer isn’t sufficient for the lives you are stealing
So, I am considering filing for divorce
Unless, America’s forefather’s descendants, show compassion and remorse
Before she begins waving her righteous flag in my face
I demand righteousness and justice that’s driven by faith
Therefore, for there to be any reconciliation with me and this country
I will protest peacefully for mercy and truth to show she genuinely loves me
Prayer
I’m so grateful to have planted my hope in You rather than this country, its system, and leadership. Lord, deliver me from developing a hateful heart, such as my offender’s. Remind me of my role to aim to please You, despite the injustices in this country. In the name of Jesus!
