Getting to Know Him- Little By Little

Scripture: John 1:50 NKJ - “…Because I said to you, I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” (Read John 1:43-51)

Nathaniel a fisherman by trade, was a bit skeptical of the man Jesus. He did not believe that anything worthwhile could come out of Nazareth. Although Jesus was born in Bethlehem, He grew up in Nazareth with His mother and earthly father Joseph (Matt. 2:19-23). “He shall be called a Nazarene.

After a discussion with Nathaniel, Phillip said to him;  “We have found Him whom Moses in the law, and the prophets wrote of-Jesus of Nazareth the son of Joseph. “Come and see for yourself  (John 1:45,46).

When Nathaniel met up with Jesus, that very day-he discovered with absolute amazement that Jesus (Lord) already knew all about him. The statement Jesus made at His meeting Nathaniel, caused him to take note. Jesus said to Nathaniel, “an Israelite in whom is no guile.” ”Jesus was looking back on Jacob who used guile to trick his brother, his father and his father-in-law.” Jesus confirmed His knowledge of Nathaniel – where he had been and what he had been doing. That was enough to convince Nathaniel that Jesus was the Son of God, the king of Israel. Already Nathaniel was more surprised than anything he had yet seen – referring to miracles. He was destined to see greater things. Wherever Jesus appears, is with purpose. There are several accounts of Jesus’ purpose in places He traveled throughout the regions -- as mentioned in the gospel of John.

Little by little more and more things surfaced that revealed Jesus as the Son of God, the anointed one from Heaven. Jesus’ title for Himself in Johns’ gospel speaks of the deity and humanity of the Son of God.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, Jesus Your Son can be trusted in every promise He has ever spoken. I can by faith trust Him with my whole heart. There is no one like Him. Jesus, You are the only true God of the universe. Hallow be thine name. Amen
