The Believers’ High-Def Life

SCRIPTURE: “For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.” 1 Corinthians 13:12
Some years ago, I couldn’t quite recognize what all the hype and hullabaloo was concerning the virtues of HD (high definition) television. Then the day came when I saw an early commercial featuring the late actor Robert Stack, who hosted “Unexplained Mysteries,” and I wondered from what moldy dust-covered archive did they fish out that program preview! After that I soon developed a far greater appreciation of hi-definition programs; they’re simply much clearer! The edges of the images are sharper, much more vivid!

God’s Word teaches that for us who love and follow Jesus and seek to live for Him, the “edges,” or purposes of this temporal life have become much more crisp and sharply defined! So many people claim to desire living a life that has a clearly defined purpose; yet, how many are confident of having identified the same? The Lord desires His people to lead such purposeful lives. Does He not declare that He is the One “who works in us both to will and to do for His good pleasure” [Philippians 2:13] ? If we are growing in our relationship with Him who died and rose again to save us, then we should likewise be growing in our urgency to do what matters MOST in His eyes, rather than merely our own. “Now, we see in a mirror dimly, but THEN face to face!” Saints, let us live in light of when we shall know just as we also are known. Thank You, Lord; amen!

PRAYER: O, blessed Lord, we long for the day when we shall behold You face to face. Help us to live in light of the day when we shall know just as we also are known. Thank You, Lord; amen!
