In Search of Sound Doctrine

In celebration of Genesis Bible Fellowship's 40th Pastoral & Church Anniversary we would like to take the month of June to share Devotionals based upon when and how the Lord led each writer to Genesis! Bible Fellowship Church. Enjoy today's devotional and may it remind you of when you were led to this branch of Zion!
SCRIPTURE: “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” Isaiah 26:3
SCRIPTURE: “For a bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, 8 but hospitable, a lover of what is good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled, 9 holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict.” Titus 1:7-9
SCRIPTURE: “For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; 5 for it is [a]sanctified by the word of God and prayer. 6 If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed.”   I Timothy 4:4-6
In 1997 while on a work detail in New York, I met my spouse. Once we became engaged, we decided to make Baltimore our home state when my work detail ended. Once we decided on a marriage date, we chose search for a new church home to join and get married at. After visiting several churches, we found that none of them had sound doctrine.

Then one day at work my coworker invited us to Genesis Bible Fellowship Church. After attending there for a while, we truly enjoyed how Pastor Cockrell and the Ministers not only preached the God’s Word, but taught the Word with sound doctrine. At the end of 1998 we joined Genesis, completed new members class and attended pre-marital counseling. We also appreciated the fact that Pastor Cockrell conducted the counseling and personally taught the new members class.  On May 22, 2026, we celebrated our 27th Marriage Anniversary.

PRAYER:  Heavenly Father, I pray that the Lord will continue to use Pastor Cockrell and the Ministers of Genesis for His Glory. Thank you, Lord for the continued sound doctrine at Genesis Bible Fellowship.

Praise the Lord , let us not keep the testimony of Jesus and this great church to ourselves. Thanks Sis. Josephine!

Amen! Amen, Sis. Jo! Praise God for His making Genesis Bible Fellowship, along with a few other "remnant" church ministries, a spiritual oasis in a land smitten by a Word drought that presently shows no immediate signs of abatement. Beautiful testimony!
