Oh, the King IS Returning

SCRIPTURE: “…when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” Luke 18:8
Years ago I had a co-worker who often urged people who were beset with many problems to go to church. She made this same suggestion to nearly everyone who shared their concerns with her. Sadly, not all churches are the authentic “spiritual emergency rooms” that our Lord designed them to be—a place where the timeless and increasing relevance of the Holy Scriptures is diligently explained week after week, resulting in changed lives that glorify the Lord.

“Those who are well have no need of a physician,” Jesus told some Pharisees in Matthew 9:12; but perhaps, like those Pharisees, many people today do not view themselves as needing spiritual help from a God whom they cannot see or hear with an audible voice. They are certainly not impressed with the behavioral witness displayed by many claiming to know the God of the Bible— a Book which many dismiss as being ancient and irrelevant.

Despite the above state of spiritual affairs, what should the people who believe on Christ Jesus do? Do we wring our hands, cease watching all news programs that daily report the hastening of all events that our Lord declared will typify these “last days?” Do we stick our heads in the sand and host “Woe-is-me” pity parties, all while declaring, ‘I’m not supposed to be here for all this craziness?!’  On the contrary, we should continue persevering in faithful church attendance, stay anchored in reading and obeying the Holy Word of God, serving the Lord in whatever way His Spirit directs, and remain committed to being doers of that Word, rather than hearers only [James 1:22]. These are the ways in which we show the world that there are people whom Christ will find faithful when He returns!

PRAYER: Father God, thank You for assuring us of the need to be patient and stand firm, as it is written [in James 5:8], because the return of our Conquering King, Christ Jesus, is near. “MARANATHA!”
